Squash back open at Redcliffe!

The news we’ve all been waiting for. As of Monday 20th July 2020 the Redcliffe PCYC, our club, has finally put in place the availability of the squash courts to play socially and practice. This has been a difficult time for the PCYC themselves as they have many and varied sports under the one roof and due to the COVID-19 pandemic have had to put in place a huge amount of procedures so that we can all come back to the sports we love. We must all be appreciative of the fact that we have a squash court to play on and abide by the Industry COVID Safe Plan.

There have been changes put in place at the club, these are listed below so that we are all clear with the new procedures.

🕛Centre Opening Hours:

➡️Monday to Friday 7.00am– 10.00am, 2.00pm – 7.00pm
➡️Saturday 8.00am – 12.00 noon

Please note that all courts booked within these times MUST be finished by closing time.

Court Costs: $15.00 per court per hour for both Seniors and Juniors.
Or: Pay $11.95 per week paid through ezidebit and play as much as you want.
Court Bookings: Courts must be booked in advance by phoning PCYC directly on 3385 1900.

➡️People must bring own vessels to drink water. Coolers/fountains will not be operational at this time. PCYC Reception has sports drinks and water for sale at reception
➡️Hands must be washed prior to getting on court and after
➡️No hand wiping on walls
➡️Anyone who is feeling unwell must not come into the centre
➡️Any person waiting to enter must wait outside and must practice social distancing
➡️Recommend that all members download COVID19 app – not compulsory but recommended
➡️No sharing of equipment

Please note that this information is for social and practice courts at present.

🔅Brisbane City Squash (BCS) Competition Fixtures is scheduled to start Tuesday 28th July and Thursday 30th July. BCS are running a short 8 week season as a ‘return to fixtures’ – this is a great opportunity to join a team for a short season. If you are interested in being a part of a team please email info@scarboroughsquash.com.au.

Inhouse is tentatively scheduled to return Monday 27th July – if you are interesting in being apart of this, please send an email to info@scarboroughsquash.com.au and we can keep you informed.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone sooner rather than later.

Happy Squashing,
Colleen and Ian and your Club Committee.

Redcliffe PCYC Coronavirus Update

The Queensland government has recently announced the easing of some restrictions that means some squash centres in Brisbane are able to reopen.

Unfortunately at this stage, Redcliffe PCYC will not be reopening just yet. As PCYC is a multi-sport facility, the maximum number of people applies to the centre in its entirety and not just individual sports; therefore Redcliffe PCYC have made the decision they will not be reopening at this point in time.

Unfortunately we do not yet have a formal date for when the club will reopen, however we believe this will align with the stage 3 restrictions (approximately mid July). We are in close conversations with the Manager of PCYC to keep informed and up to date, and as soon as we have more information we will update you.

We are very much looking forward to being back on court with our fellow clubbies and hope that day comes around fast. We will provide updates as we know more through email and our Facebook page.

Stay safe and hopefully see you soon!

It will be a fantastic day and an opportunity to see Australia’s top players in action, so put it in the calendars and we hope to see you there!

PCYC out and about at local events!

Have you seen some inflatable courts around the place recently???

Squash Australia and Brisbane City Squash have inflatable courts that are fantastic to use at festivals, shows and fetes for kids to have a go at squash and see what it’s about.

PCYC clubbies have been helping out over the last weeks with the inflatables at some local shows; both the Mueller College Fete and the Pine Rivers Show. It’s fantastic to see kids lining up to give squash a go, loving it and even coming back for seconds!

The shows were a huge success, and the inflatables proved a hit with the kids and kids-at-heart alike.

New court floors!

The Club was lucky enough to be successful in a grant from the Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Funds in 2018, for the purposes of two new court floors and upgrades to all the tins on all four courts.

CourtTech visited Redcliffe to install the floors, and a number of our clubbies helped out in a working bee in demolishing the old floors.

The new court floors mean the courts are safer and lighter, with no breakages in the floors, and will be long lasting! The new tins are also adjustable, meaning they can be set at the standard height of 19 inch, or the Professional Squash Association height of 17 inch, or very low for doubles at 13.5 inches (give that one a go!).

The Club is continuing to seek grants in order to fix the floors on the last two courts and look forward to when all the floors have been upgraded.
